Learning From Feedback

In every success and failure, there is something to learn. The question is whether we stop long enough to reflect on and absorb the lessons.

I often say that my business is driven first by observing and learning about the keys to successful proactive, strategic behavior. I can learn about this through books, articles, interviews, podcasts, firsthand experience, and other formats. If I apply those lessons with some success, it should attract others to learn what worked for me and why.

If we apply those learned lessons to their lives and businesses, we get additional data or feedback. Some things that worked for me and others may not work for them. Some things that did NOT work for me, will work for them. From both sets of results, we get feedback.

That feedback loops back on itself to continue to drive the learning and observations about what the keys to proactive, strategic behavior are. It never ends, it just continuously loops leading to further improvements and refinements.

This is about as close as I’ll ever get to a consulting “template”. But this “framework” is extremely helpful beyond just proactive, strategic behavior.

Where in your life and work do you receive feedback? How does that inform learning about what you can do repeatedly for similar successful results? What does it tell you about ways to improve or to get ahead of future negative positioning? How can you incorporate the data into your tasks, appointments, and ongoing learning and growth?

The only bad thing to do with data and feedback? Shrug your shoulders and move on.

Reflect, learn, and apply your learning. See how quickly the results of that feedback will move you forward.
