Ask yourself this question when planning or designing a system: what’s the easiest version?
Many people are busily perfecting systems, task lists, calendars, procedures documents, and similar databases. They let their inner geeks run wild on rainy Saturdays, creating the perfect system that must be executed “just so”.
And then the rushing waters of reality hit on Monday. Unexpected flat tire, the kid fell and broke his arm, key employee quits, and then you get sick.
Design systems instead that allow you to still get all the right things done, easily, on your worst days. It’s like an easy button that you set up ahead of time.
Complicated systems are just that in reality. Make it easy, and it’s much more likely to work!
