What is the biggest pitfall of success? Complacency.
That’s right. It’s not more problems, greater challenges, expanding lifestyles, or the constant worry about sustaining and achieving more success. It’s complacency.
Why?
Because once we’ve achieved enough success that we don’t need to fight as hard anymore, we start sacrificing the very things that made us successful.
Once you have enough customers and incoming revenue, you neglect business development and filling the funnel.
Once you have enough money for that vacation, or that renovation, or that new car, or whatever, you stop saving as much and start buying a few other little luxuries,
Once you’ve closed enough deals, you stop taking good, solid care of the business already on your desk.
The list goes on. Success breeds complacency, even if we desire more success. It’s hard to keep the wheel turning faster, further, indefinitely.
The solution? Renew your motivation.
What is your vision? Are your goals still relevant? What is the deep “why” behind them? Remember what brought you to the dance if you want to keep dancing.
Life gives us lots of reasons to relax, coast, and become complacent. Know why you do what you do to keep pushing ahead, even if further growth is not your goal.
