When you see something that needs to be done, take the initiative to do it.
This little maxim has served me well throughout my life. A lot of people are walking around seeing and ignoring problems. Or worse, they’re seeing problems and saying, “Someone should do something about that!”
The adage “if you see something, say something” is a good guide.
Take the initiative. Push for a solution. Call for a meeting. Bring people together to address the issue. Draft a plan. Present possible solutions. Move the issue forward.
When you act on opportunities to make things better, success almost always follows.
This applies from the frontline employees all the way up to how the entire company sees itself. It applies to each of us in our homes, our families, our jobs, our companies, our volunteer efforts, and even within our own selves.
Once, in response to my expression of gratitude for providing many opportunities for me, a mentor paid me one of the finest compliments ever by saying, “I simply opened a few doors. You chose to walk through them.”
Bring that mindset to everything you do. Take the initiative to lead proactively and make the people and the world around you better.
