Re-Ignite the Inspiration or Say “Goodbye”

We often make commitments with a lot of energy and enthusiasm only to find them harder to keep than we expected and a cause of quick burnout.

The burst of excitement about new commitments and new opportunities never goes away throughout life. The challenge is to maintain that energy and channel it into continued forward progress even when you’re tired and begin to burn out.

To do this, we must re-visit the purpose. Why did we make the commitment? Why did we take on the challenge? What was that initial spark of inspiration?

If we can re-capture that, we can re-ignite the fire to see it through to completion. And then magical things can happen.

But occasionally, the world and setting around us has changed so much that we can no longer be effective. In those moments, we must recognize the need to do the right thing and bow out gracefully.

Balance between the two is essential to success in our endeavors. Never be afraid to take on and re-ignite the inspiration for a new adventure. But also never be afraid to say that something has run its course and it’s time for you to pass the torch to others and serve elsewhere.
