Never underestimate the power of the simple response, “I’m here.”
Our friends, our colleagues, our family members, and our communities often face unexpected challenges and difficulties. We find ourselves poorly positioned or powerless to help. We search for the perfect turn of phrase, of just the right mix of words, to express our care but inability to help. And then we worry about not doing enough.
In reality, a simple, “I’m here” offering comfort, support, and a willingness to do what we can with what we have where we are is often more than enough. It assures others they are not facing life’s challenges alone, and it emphasizes our support and desire to help.
Overcomplicating serving and helping others almost always leads down a path that accomplishes nothing. Simplifying to offer support and simply be there when and where needed is usually the best gift we can offer.
Remember the simple approach and just be there.
