Have you expanded your circle lately?
In personal and professional networks, the most interesting and unique ideas often come from your “loose ties”. This phrase refers to the people in your network who you don’t interact with nearly as frequently as family, close friends, co-workers, and people you see regularly.
If you think about it, the people you see regularly know about the same opportunities as you. They’re in the same circles, at the same events, or working at the same organization(s). But those people you know, but don’t see so regularly, are exposed to opportunities, activities, and organizations that you aren’t.
This can work for job opportunities, career changes, expanding your customer pool, business development activities, or networking purely for the sake of continuously creating new relationships.
Don’t fall into the rut of grabbing lunch or coffee with the same handful of people who, while fun, don’t help you move anything meaningful forward. Look at your circles, and expand them periodically. Really cool new stuff is likely to show up!
