Embracing New Ways

A lot of people don’t like and even resist change. But change is one of the only constant and guaranteed things in life.

Traditions are important. I love all the annual fall and holiday family traditions. I look forward to them every year, and I get a little upset when they get disrupted. But traditions can’t last forever, and new, better, more efficient ways of doing things emerge every day.

Imagine if we stuck with those giant cell (car, really) phones in briefcase bags! Or what about the ones mounted on the emergency brake handle! They were so cool and advanced for their time, but now most of us have a literal computer in our pockets!

Had no one pushed ahead and said, “Let’s try something other than rotary phones on the kitchen wall,” so many advances may not have happened.

So, the next time a simple change in the usual way of doing things upsets or disrupts you, take a deep breath, center yourself, and remember that all good progress first requires change.
