The key to a long, successful life and career is simply compounding.
Think about how few people in today’s world simply do what they say they will, following through and keeping their word. It seems to be fewer and fewer every day. Think about how few companies provide quality products and services, as advertised, that do what they say they will. Think about how few employees show up with full initiative and commitment every day. The numbers seem to be decreasing all the time.
My point is not to rant about the decline in quality but to point out the opportunity. Those who simply do what they should, what they say they will, consistently for long periods of time, will always succeed.
What you do, or make, or sell, or provide is almost irrelevant. That you do it with excellence, consistently, for long enough to outlast those who don’t, is what matters most.
In investing, controlling expenses and letting compounding work are the two most basic keys to portfolio growth. There is zero difference in the work and effort aspect of our lives.
Do good work consistently for a long time. It’s almost impossible NOT to succeed if you do.
